Highlights from 2023 International LGBTQ Leaders Conference
Earlier this month, LGBTQ+ Victory Institute brought together out officials, activists and allies from across the world for three days of skills-building, networking and strategy sessions aimed to strengthen the movement for equality. Here are some highlights!
Watching U.S. Senator Laphonza Butler discuss making LGBTQ+ history and more with Founder of TransLash Media, Imara Jones [[link removed]] ;
Inducting the 2023 Hall of Fame Class: California Senate President pro Tempore Toni Atkins, former Massachusetts state Senator Jarrett Barrios, and former Texas state Representative Glen Maxey to the LGBTQ+ Political Hall of Fame [[link removed]] ;
Last year’s Global Trailblazer awardee, Mexican Congresswoman Salma Luévano, presenting Colombian Congresswoman Carolina Giraldo with the 2023 Global Trailblazer Award [[link removed]] ;
We also hosted exciting plenary sessions covering LGBTQ+ issues and the 2024 elections [[link removed]] , tactics to counter the global anti-LGBTQ movement [[link removed]] and anti-trans attacks [[link removed]] , heard from Indigenous LGBTQ+ leaders about their duel fight for equality [[link removed]] , as well as bisexual and pansexual leaders about being visible in office [[link removed]] .

U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin celebrated the one-year Respect for Marriage Act with an op-ed in Newsweek [[link removed]] !
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is under attack: bigots in the state are attempting to remove her from office for “grotesque abuse of office.” Her crime? Enforcing election law in the state [[link removed]] .
Earlier this year, bigots in the U.S. House attempted to add dozens of anti-LGBTQ riders to various bills [[link removed]] , including the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) [[link removed]] . But there is good news: the amendments have been dropped [[link removed]] ! Congressional Equality Caucus Chair Mark Pocan and other members of the Equality Caucus worked overtime to ensure these hateful provisions didn’t remain attached to the bill [[link removed]] .
Them. published a comprehensive overview of the number, type and location of all the anti-LGBTQ bills introduced in 2023 [[link removed]] . The sheer number of bills will shock you. Unfortunately, several states have already started introducing anti-LGBTQ bills for the 2024 legislative session [[link removed]] .
