Deciding to leave Afghanistan was hard. I worried about leaving my mother behind, but she insisted that my sister and I find a way to leave the country. She wanted a better future for us.
Reaching the airport in Kabul last August was a harrowing experience. My classmates and I were able to get on a plane to the United States. After arriving, I spent three and a half months on a military base. The IRC’s staff helped us apply to live here in the U.S.— and through it all, it's been so reassuring to know that the IRC team is there to help us, whenever we need it.
Your support makes the IRC’s incredible work for refugees possible — THANK YOU. Trust me when I say my classmates and I are very grateful. I hope that you will consider making a special year-end gift today, while your support will go twice as far.
