Earl had been trying for years to get an ID without success. One thing that made getting his ID so hard was that the Social Security office required a demographic record from a local medical office — a record that the medical office didn’t know how to provide!

Following this frustrating experience, Earl reached out to VoteRiders staff in North Carolina, where he lives. Pam Pearson, VoteRiders’ National Voter ID Assistance Director, gave Earl the hands-on, one-on-one support to get what he needed from the medical office, then the Social Security Administration, and finally the DMV.

Without a job or steady housing, the fees and transportation could have been a deal breaker for Earl.
