The central Sahel region is home to one of the fastest-growing humanitarian crises globally. Yet, the Sahel is amongst the least discussed and least supported humanitarian crises in the world.
This year, as rates of malnutrition have skyrocketed, armed conflicts have escalated and children's needs have grown, UNICEF has mounted an urgent response. The latest numbers show a real impact being made:
- In Burkina Faso, UNICEF has provided educational support to more than 94,000 children who have been forced out of school.
- In Mali, UNICEF has reached more than 122,000 children with measles vaccines.
- In Niger, UNICEF and partners have delivered nutritional treatment to more than 380,000 severely malnourished children.
Still, millions of children have been displaced by the compounding crises of violent attacks and climate change — and an even greater humanitarian response is needed.
Before children face a new year of challenges, we’re looking to people like you to show up to deliver relief.

Throughout this year, climate-induced flooding, droughts and rising temperatures have forced children and their families in the Sahel and around the world to flee home. And, with the impacts of every new and ongoing climate event, children are at even greater risk of experiencing challenges like malnutrition and the spread of disease.
While the stakes are high, there’s still hope for children — as long as we move fast.
