There’s an important, upcoming election in Travis County (Austin), Texas.
We need as many people as possible to get involved now.

The incumbent District Attorney, Margaret Moore, has doubled down on the
failed war on drugs, withheld power from the community so she can
personally determine whether to prosecute police shootings, and
perpetuated cash bail. Moore has the police union in her corner – but with
the power of people, we can replace her.

be the next DA in Austin. Our plan is to donate an initial $5,000 to his

The reason that I got involved in DA races in the first place is because
one thing became clear: There is no elected position with more power to
reform the justice system and hold police accountable. So if you’re angry
at the mass incarceration machine – I need you to turn that into action.
You can do that right now by donating to help elect José.

Texas is ground zero for mass incarceration. But it can also be ground
zero for change. Right now in Travis County – that means Austin – Black
people make up just 9% of the total population – but 25% of the jail
population. And more than 70% of people in the county jail haven’t even
been convicted of a crime. Many just can’t afford to pay bail.

José is a dedicated public servant and a former public defender. He’s
fought for justice for communities of color, working families, and
immigrant communities throughout his career. We can count on José to
transform the justice system from the inside out.

We’re up against the police union and the incumbent’s entrenched power –
but if enough of us chip in, we can elect José. That’s why even though the
election is March 3, 2020, we have to start now.
