Dear John,
As we prepare to head into the new year, millions of older Americans can expect to receive their 3.2% Social Security Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) in January, much lower than this year’s 8.7% COLA.
For many Social Security beneficiaries who rely solely on their earned benefits to make ends meet this COLA means they will continue to struggle to afford the high cost of food, housing and prescription drugs.
Yet, despite the fact that millions of older Americans will continue to rely on Social Security for most of their income in retirement, GOP hardliners in the U.S. House of Representative are gearing up to force a vote on a commission that could have the power to fast-track devastating cuts to Social Security and Medicare through Congress.
That’s why we must be prepared as soon as the 118th Congress gavels into session to defeat any effort by lawmakers to pay for deficit reduction or a permanent expansion of the $2 trillion Trump-GOP tax law for the wealthy by slashing and “reforming” your earned benefits.
As a reminder, the National Committee relies solely on the generosity of our million+ members and supporters — and every dollar makes a difference in our fight! So please make your year-end gift today to help the National Committee wage a winning battle on behalf of you, your family and your earned benefits!
Sincerely,
|
