Since the start of the war in April, The Sentry has—in coalition with like-minded organizations—pushed to cut off major streams of conflict financing. We have used our public profile to call for financial consequences for the warlords who have plunged their country into chaos, causing enormous pain for the Sudanese people. And we have worked privately with some of our high-profile allies to support more robust policy measures. |

In part as a result of The Sentry’s advocacy, both the US and the UK have announced sanctions on individuals and companies responsible for funding the war. The goal of these sanctions is to cut off key sources of financing for the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese Armed Forces, depriving them of the resources needed to pay, arm, and supply their forces.
