Friends, as your email inbox fills up with requests from campaigns this week, you may be wondering:
Why do FEC deadlines matter anyway?
Well, as a Finance Director, I could go on for hours — but don’t worry, I won’t! Here’s a quick explainer:
Any donations made to Tim’s campaign by midnight on December 31st, 2023, will appear on a public report from the Federal Election Commission.
They compile and publish our contributions (and what we’re spending!) to increase transparency and accountability in campaign finance.
That’s a good thing!
But here’s the bad part: If we don’t reach our goals, we risk having a weak showing on the very first public FEC report of the election year.
A weak showing allows our opponents to make inroads — and it opens the door for Republicans to get an even bigger foothold of power in VA.
We already know they consider Virginia’s Senate seat a pickup opportunity, so we really can’t afford to take any risks.
Yesterday, Tim announced that we need to raise $68,000 by the deadline to stay on track — and only a few people stepped up to donate. So today, I have to ask again:
Will you chip in ANY amount towards our $68,000 grassroots FEC goal right now?
