After she lost everything in a flood two years ago, Eysa is rebuilding her
life with Mercy Corps’ help.


Eysa’s home along the Awash River in Ethiopia was gone.

Prolonged drought followed by torrential rains made the river rise and
swept away the houses along the river’s bank. She and her children went
without food for five days and slept underneath a bridge while they looked
for a safe place to stay.

Two years later, with help from Mercy Corps, Eysa is running a successful
small business and rebuilding her life.

climate and conflict wreak havoc across the world, families like Eysa’s

a small shop where she sells food, water, and clothing to farmers, truck
drivers, and their families in her rural region.

She now makes a strong living — saving nearly a quarter of her profits
each month — and creating a better future for her children.
