1) Former NIH Director Comes Clean on COVID Lockdowns: We Attached “Zero Value to Whether This Disrupts Lives, Kills the Economy”
We have long said that the cardinal sin of the COVID response was the spread of total panic. This was the opposite of the longtime convention that the responsibility of the public health system in a pandemic is to keep people calm and society functioning. The hysteria they generated was responsible for hundreds of thousands of non-COVID excess deaths, massive economic and social harms, and worst of all an unprecedented education disaster.
Fauci's former boss, Francis Collins, recently made a remarkably frank confession:
As a guy living inside the Beltway, feeling a sense of crisis, trying to decide what to do in some situation room in the White House with people who had data that was incomplete, we weren't really thinking about what that would mean to Wilk and his family in Minnesota, a thousand miles away from where the virus was hitting so hard.
We weren't really considering the consequences in communities that were not New York City or some other big city.
The public health people, we talked about this earlier, if you're a public health person and you're trying to make a decision, you have this very narrow view of what the right decision is, and that is something that will save a life. It doesn't matter what else happens. So you attach infinite value to stopping the disease and saving a life. You attach a zero value to whether this actually totally disrupts people's lives, ruins the economy, and has many kids kept out of school in a way that they never quite recovered…
This is a public health mindset. And I think a lot of us involved in trying to make those recommendations had that mindset, and that was really unfortunate. It's another mistake we made. Okay.
No, not at all Okay!
We are not conspiratorialists, but: There is another factor that remains forever unspoken by the lockdown artists and the panic and economic chaos they caused. It was to at all costs defeat Trump – who was on his way to a landslide reelection.

2) School Choice Movement Just Getting Started
2023 was a stellar year for school choice with more than a dozen states adopting or expanding educational freedom for parents and their kids. But 2024 and 2025 could bring even more victories.
The map below shows where choice was expanded in 2023 and the top state targets for this coming year. Four states that are on the cusp of a major expansion of parental choice in education are Georgia, Idaho, Tennessee, and Texas, with the governors in each of these states fully committed.
Add to that the full-throttled endorsement by Donald Trump, who says he will dedicate federal education dollars to help fund school choice programs in the states. This analysis by Reuters indicates that school choice may be a breakthrough election issue for the GOP in 2024:

It’s depressing to us that almost all the school choice action is in the red and purple states. Don’t Democrats care about their kids? As we’ve mentioned before, Illinois pathetically went BACKWARD on school choice this year taking away educational freedom to thousands of minority children, despite the fact that Chicago has among the worst public schools in the nation. And then they march around with “Black Lives Matter” signs. Please!

3) And the Winner is…Idaho
In percentage terms, the state that attracted the most new residents from other states was Idaho, followed by South Carolina and Montana.
Idaho, Montana, and Arizona have become sanctuaries for those tax exiles escaping California. Idaho is on track to steal a congressional seat from California by the 2030 census count.

We think the Montana surge is partly a result of the popular TV show Yellowstone. On the show, it’s always sunny and beautiful. Beware: Montana is Minnesota cold eight months of the year.

4) 22 States Set to Raise Minimum Wage Due to Bidenflation
The Biden White House keeps claiming inflation is coming down without noticing the irony that the minimum wage is being raised in 22 states with the New Year mostly to keep up with the cost of living. A dozen states are set to have a minimum wage of $15 or more an hour by 2026. They would represent 40 percent of U.S. workers.

Next April, California fast-food workers will see a 30 percent pay hike to $20 an hour – thanks, in part, to Biden-flation. This will eliminate tens of thousands of jobs for low-skilled workers.
Business Insider reports that two Pizza Hut operators in California are eliminating delivery services and laying off all of their 1,200 drivers by February.

California has half a million fast-food workers at 30,000 restaurants. Expect many of them to be replaced by automated kiosks and perhaps even robots to take your order in the next few years.

5) If You Read the Hotline, You Must Be a Racist
Not really, but that’s only because the professional race hustlers in American higher education – especially in the Ivy Leagues – haven’t got us in their sights yet as we on a daily basis lampoon progressive ideology.
How bad has liberal sanctimony gotten on college campuses? Our friends at The College Fix have compiled a list of 71 things this year that were declared racist or in need of “anti-racist” action.
Here is a sample of the idiocy, but we recommend reading the entire list:
* Not wearing a mask
* Robert E. Lee’s horse
* Black Communist who liked white composers
* Senator Tim Scott
* Clean pantries
* Body Mass Index
* Students at Michigan Technological University for putting up a fake Berlin Wall
* Botanical gardens
* White paper
* Having to read "To Kill A Mockingbird"
* Admissions essay word limit
