We need to make the blowback huge? ? ? Friend ? so much has happened since we reached out on Friday. In a vote of 363 to 40, the House has passed the first coronavirus relief bill, which includes paid sick leave, free coronavirus testing, and unemployment insurance.
A second round of legislation is now moving quickly as follow-up to provide greater economic stimulus. The Trump administration is still exploring bailout money for oil companies, and he just announced the purchase of tens of millions of gallons of oil for the Strategic Petroleum Reserves to prop up the industry.
We have to make sure another bailout for the oil industry isn't a part of the coronavirus response. As we barrel towards negotiations with the Republican-controlled Senate, we need the environmental movement ? and everyone who stands for science and public health ? to be watching closely and ready to fight.
We need your help. A donor has agreed to triple-match every contribution to LCV through the end of the month. The best thing you can do to help right now is to make an emergency contribution.
For more detail, read Friday's message below. And then, please donate ? whatever you can afford will make a huge difference right now, even if it's just $5 ? [link removed]
Friend ? thank you, sincerely, for everything you do for the movement. These are tough times, and we have been heartened to see how people and communities have come together to support each other.
Stay safe ? and stay healthy.

LCV Rapid Response Team ? ? ? ? ? This story is developing quickly? in response to the coronavirus pandemic, the federal government is considering a support package to counteract some of the damage the virus has done.
A vote is expected today. Trump has expressed concerns over the hit that oil and gas producers are taking. Oil and gas firms took the steepest one-day drop in almost 30 years earlier this week.
Insiders are reporting that Trump and his advisers have been taking calls from the energy industry to pocket a massive bailout. As they look for a way forward, we're being told that Trump's advisers and Senate Republicans are on the fence ? they're concerned over the political blowback of a move like this.
We need the blowback to be historic. This proposal is by no means final ? and it needs to be approved by Congress. If we raise hell in the next 48 hours, we have a real shot at scaring Trump off and getting the funding for Big Oil eliminated from the package. To pull that off, we need your help.
A donor has agreed to triple-match every contribution to LCV through the end of the month. The best thing you can do to help right now is to make an emergency contribution.
Please ? pitch in. Whatever you can afford will make a huge difference right now, even if it's just $5 ? [link removed]
FOR IMMEDIATE REVIEW: TRIPLE MATCH STATUS
Please confirm NAME: Friend Friend SUPPORTER EMAIL:
[email protected] GOAL: $100,000 by March 31, 2020 PROGRESS: 19% to goal STATUS: STILL PENDING ? DONATE TODAY ? [link removed] As coronavirus spreads and communities set up quarantines, the threat to public health is obvious and dire. The economic damage is also serious. As businesses shutter, non-salaried workers will be hit particularly hard and face incredible pressure to go to work ? or risk losing their entire income.
We can't let Trump use this moment as an excuse to siphon off more money to the energy industry ? but we have to move quickly.
I want you to know ? this is a fight we can win, but it's not the only one we're up against right now. Hitting this goal matters SO, so much ? here are a few more reasons why: Because a federal judge just voided nearly 1 million acres of oil and gas leases, ruling that a Trump administration policy to cut public input out of the leasing process was illegal. There's now a massive fight underway to re-secure that land for drilling ? and we're campaigning to stop it. We need you on board. Donate to LCV today ? [link removed] Because the Trump administration is trying to gut the National Environmental Policy Act. That would mean agencies would no longer consider climate change when approving major projects like highways, pipelines, and other infrastructure proposals, and could ignore public input. We're making a final urgent push to block the new rule, but we have to move quickly if we have any chance at all. You can help. Make a donation to the League of Conservation Voters today ? [link removed] Because the Trump administration is about to sell access to the area around the Grand Canyon to allow uranium mining. The Grand Canyon has been home to Indigenous communities, including the Havasupai, Hualapai, Hopi, and Navajo Nation communities, for millennia. Congress is pushing to block the sale, but we need major grassroots pressure if we have any chance of succeeding. Please ? make a donation today. Even $5 can make a huge difference ? [link removed] Because the 2020 race is in full swing, and we need the environmental movement to be pushing ? HARD. Through our Change the Climate 2020 campaign, we're pushing presidential candidates to commit to serious plans to fight climate change, including their ideas to invest in communities that are hit hardest by its effects. The only way that happens is if the environmental movement mobilizes in a major way. We need YOUR help ? [link removed] Because even after Trump pulled the United States from the Paris agreement, there's still a real shot at holding ourselves to the commitments we made as a country. After aggressive grassroots campaigns, state and local governments are setting their own emissions limits. This is stuff that doesn't always make front page news ? but it's huge, and it only happens when the environmental movement demands it. Friend ? your donation keeps this work going ? [link removed] Bottom line ? we cannot afford to go dark right now, but we need your help to keep going in every one of these fights. Thank you so much for your support. We couldn't do this work without you.
