John,
This an uncertain time, and it can be difficult not to pair uncertainty with anxiety or fear. What's important to remember is that all the cancellations and closures
that are likely making you feel unsettled right now are being put in
place to protect us, not to stifle us.
These measures — staying at home
and practicing social distancing and good hand washing — are the actions
that will make you safe and ensure the safety of your vulnerable
neighbors and loved ones.
Governor
Wolf, Dr. Rachel Levine, and our state's team of experts in multiple
fields and departments have pulled together to make sure we have access
to the information and resources that we need.
We're Pennsylvanians, and that comes
with an undeniable spirit of independence. There's no doubt that this is going to be tough on
us, emotionally and financially.
My top job right
now is the same as yours — to stay calm and to stay at home, minimizing
social interactions and trips to indoor public places — and that's what Gisele and I will be doing. Karl, Grace, and August are working to adjust to this new norm.
This will end, and it will end sooner and with a better outcome for all
Pennsylvanians if we all do what we should do right now.
If you
are able to, please try to enjoy the things that haven’t been canceled:
watching a new show, spring cleaning, finishing (or starting) that to-do
list, family craft time or board games, long bike rides in nature,
writing that book you talked about, gardening and expressing yourself
creatively. Please check in with friends and your most vulnerable
neighbors online or on the phone.
Please be extra kind to each other and those working at the grocery stores, hospitals, and other spaces that remain open.
Stay safe. We are with you.
All the best,
John
