Hi John - Like all of us, I am in the midst of figuring out how to rearrange my life and make sure my kids are taken care of during this incredibly unsettling time. I am glad that our leaders in Washington have put together a bipartisan relief package that will work to address immediate needs by expanding sick leave, ensuring free testing is widely available and minimizing the impact on the economy. Unfortunately, Congress has yet to address the needs of child care providers, staff and the families that depend on quality care for their children so they can work. You can help change this by speaking out today! Please send a message today to your members of Congress asking them to co-sponsor the Supporting Students in Response to Coronavirus Act. This bill would provide emergency grants to early childhood education providers, care and education programs, schools, and institutions of higher education to respond to COVID-19. This funding can help them cover unexpected costs related to sanitizing their facilities, training staff in proper methods to stop the spread of the disease and hiring additional emergency staff should existing staff get sick. It will also help facilities continue to cover costs should they need to shut down temporarily to address the public health needs in their community. Most child care centers are already stretched incredibly thin when it comes to meeting basic expenses and delivering high quality programs working families can afford. In many communities there is already an extreme lack of child care programs to meet the existing need. The last thing we need at this point is for child care facilities to shut down permanently if they can’t meet the additional costs imposed by the pandemic. This bill is a critical first step to helping early learning providers stay open so children continue to receive enriching experiences in a safe and healthy place. Send an urgent message to your legislators today to ensure that child care centers are protected during the coronavirus outbreak. There are many needs right now as we seek to protect our communities during the coronavirus pandemic. Ensuring our littlest learners can continue learning in a safe, healthy environment and that working parents know their children are taken care of should be at the top of the list. Please support the Supporting Students in Response to Coronavirus Act today. Thank you for being a voice for kids, |
