The transformation of the former Orick Mill Site

----------

John, an incredible story is unfolding on Yurok ancestral lands in the heart of Redwood National and State Parks.

The League and our partners, including the Yurok Tribe, are transforming the former Orick Mill Site into a stunning visitor gateway to some of the world’s most famous old-growth groves.GIVE TODAY: All Gifts Matched [[link removed]]

Gone are acres of asphalt from the old-growth timber mill era. They’ve been removed by Yurok Tribe crews working in their traditional lands to restore a once-degraded section of Prairie Creek and improve critical habitat for imperiled salmon.

Over time, we’ll see the natural world reclaim this space, a healthy creek teeming with fish and amphibians, a vibrant floodplain with sustainable native plant communities, and wildlife building their homes where asphalt once covered the ground.

The new gateway will also welcome visitors and local communities back to this site, featuring an array of amenities and interpretive experiences, a traditional Yurok site, and accessible trails connecting visitors to our most storied redwood parks.

Your support for the League makes transformations like this possible. [[link removed]] Right now, Ken and Michelle Burkus are DOUBLING all gifts to the Redwood Land Fund up to $250,000 in memory of John Arthur Burkus.

Make 2x the Impact for healing Redwood Forests [[link removed]]

There’s nothing better than seeing the look on someone’s face when they visit the redwoods for the first time. Your gift will help the League and our partners create more welcoming, engaging, and inclusive redwoods experiences, like this one at the former Orick Mill Site.

We must be ready to respond to critical opportunities to increase the acreage of protected redwoods in order to create and expand the special places where people and nature thrive.

By making a gift to the League’s Redwood Land Fund, you can drive these efforts to ensure we purchase, protect, restore and connect people to the remaining unprotected coast redwood and giant sequoia properties.

Your matched gift will create beloved places for future generations to visit and treasure.

Thank you for investing in forest transformations.
