Yesterday evening, the City of Long Beach took steps to close more businesses to the public as measures to mitigate community spread of COVID-19.

It’s important to follow Governor Newsom and the state’s guidelines as they relate to bars, restaurants, gyms and other businesses. We know this is a huge financial burden to small businesses and workers, but we are in a health crisis and we need to take decisive action.

Effective today, March 17, 2020, at 12 a.m., and continuing through March 31, 2020, or until further notice, the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services mandates the closure of all bars, nightclubs, breweries and wineries, and limits restaurants, coffee shops, and other food-serving establishments to delivery and takeout only.



The ordinance also mandates the closure of gyms and other fitness facilities, large entertainment facilities such as movie theaters, bowling alleys and arcades and prohibits any mass gatherings of more than 50 people that take place in a confined or enclosed space. The policies are in line with those of the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health <[link removed]>. Social distancing is a key factor in preventing community spread of COVID-19.

Business owners are encouraged to read the declaration <[link removed]> and call 562.570.4BIZ with questions. Additional guidance or changes will be issued as needed in the future as the City evaluates this situation with our state and local partners.
