Hi there, it’s Gabby Giffords.

This time of year is always full of reflection and gratitude for me, and recently, I found myself thinking about how grateful I am for my friend Chris Murphy’s leadership and how important it is that he wins reelection.

So I asked him if I could reach out today to personally ask you to make a contribution to his campaign before his end-of-year FEC deadline.

Chris and I were colleagues in the House of Representatives together, until my time there was cut short.

This January will mark 13 years since I was shot in the head while meeting with constituents in Tucson, Arizona. I’ve been in recovery every single day since then. I often think about my recovery the same way I think about our movement to end gun violence: some days are more difficult than others, but we must always move ahead.

It hasn’t been an easy journey for me, but even on my darkest days, I’ve refused to give up hope. I know Chris hasn’t given up either.

In the days that followed Sandy Hook, he was sworn into the U.S. Senate, and I started GIFFORDS. Together, we committed ourselves to changing our gun laws to save lives. He became our movement’s leader within Congress while you and I worked alongside him from outside — demanding his colleagues find the courage to act.

I know this work isn’t easy. But the fights worth having rarely are. That’s why we can never, ever give up.

Today, I encourage you to take a moment to renew your hope that we can and will have a future someday where the threat of gun violence no longer looms over us.
