In first half of the 2023-2024 Legislative Session, I’m proud to have introduced 58 bills and resolutions in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives that focus on the issues Pennsylvanians care about the most: Bills like Veterans’ Records of Discharge to safeguard veteran’s private information, Temporarily Raising Maximum School Age Due to COVID-19 to strengthen our education policies, and Comprehensive Storm Water Management to protect our homes and businesses from flooding.
This was also the first time in over a decade that Democrats took the majority in the PA House, creating a split legislature as Republicans remained the majority in the PA Senate. With our majority, Pennsylvania House Democrats were able to focus on urgent issues such as investing in education, updating state infrastructure, and increasing access to mental health services.
We also passed bills that would create background checks for firearms, ease the burden of childcare costs, increase the minimum wage, protect access to abortions and reproductive health, establish a tax credit for new nurses, teachers, and police officers, and institute anti-hate crime laws. Lots of good pieces of legislation passed the House this year but unfortunately remain held up in the Senate.
This is progress that I am proud of and I am hopeful that the Senate will take up and pass these bills in 2024. In the House, we will continue to work on and pass legislation that makes Pennsylvania a great place to work and live.
If you have questions about the legislation mentioned or are looking for an update on one of my bills, please send an email to [email protected] and my office will be in touch!
