John,

We made a lot of progress in Pennsylvania this year, and we should celebrate all the successes and advancements that expand our access to the ballot, and our voting rights. However, as we work to build a NEW Pennsylvania – and nation – that is for all of us, we must stay diligent to ensure that our representatives are reflective of the people and our sacred voting rights are protected.

States around the nation are still working to specifically, and with surgical precision, strip away voting rights from Black voters. Here’s a look at what’s happening:

❌ In Georgia, elected officials have to redraw their legislative maps after a judge determined they diluted the Black vote.

❌ In North Carolina, according to AP News, the newly adopted maps for the state Senate “divide a cluster of predominantly Black counties in the northeast corner of the state in a way that unfairly dilutes the voting power of Black residents.”

❌ In Texas, according to the Washington Post, “the Supreme Court let stand a local map in Texas that a lower court determined watered down the strength of Black and Latino voters.”

In fact: According to the Washington Post, Congressional maps are being challenged in at least nine states, “with the results expected to help determine who wields power on Capitol Hill beginning in 2025.”

Our work is far from finished. Black voters remain woefully underrepresented after centuries of oppression, targeted policies, and neglect. We are working to change that, and the first step is to protect Black voters’ freedom to vote and have those votes counted.

Black voters are powerful. That is why Republicans are working overtime to silence their voices and strip away their access to the ballot box. John, we are not going to stand for it.
