Lauren Black, 21, grew up a four-sport athlete --
refusing to let cystic fibrosis stand in her way ([link removed]).

When Lauren was approved for Trikafta® in her junior year of high school, she noticed an immediate, positive change in her physical health. While initially this therapy seemed promising, Lauren began to experience significant new symptoms. After consulting her care team, she made the difficult decision to discontinue the treatment that she once thought would help her more fully thrive.

It felt like she took one step forward, and two steps back once she stopped taking Trikafta. Two months after stopping the medication, Lauren was hospitalized following a significant loss of lung function and weight -- forcing her to withdraw from the college semester to focus on her health.

However, Lauren won't let these setbacks slow her down. She's determined to have a normal college experience, including living on campus with friends. As she thinks about life after school, she dreams of being a photographer or videographer -- a career she hopes can provide the flexibility she needs.

Lauren's story reflects the complexity of this devastating disease. Despite our progress, not everyone in the CF community can tolerate -- or is eligible for -- existing therapies.
