Help Support CEP’s Monitoring Of Right-Wing Extremism In Central And Eastern
Europe

This year, the Counter Extremism Project (CEP) used comprehensive research and
actionable reports in an effort to monitor the growing spectre of right-wing
extremism in all regions East of Berlin.

In doing so, CEP has taken on the crucial task of investigating and
understanding the trends emanating from this region and synthesizing them for
policymakers, community leaders, and educators to effectively implement
counter-extremism measures. This builds on a long-standing body of work of CEP,
such as an analysis of paramilitary training infrastructure in Central and
Eastern Europe as well as various reports highlighting the phenomenon of
Foreign Fighters in Ukraine, which details the transnational social movement of
volunteering for Ukraine, including those physically fighting on the frontlines.

The extremist Russian biker gang, the “Night Wolves”

On the opposite side of the war, CEP examined and produced new research on
Russian right-wing extremist actors. These in-depth reports included an
examination of the Night Wolves, AKA Putin’s Angels, an extremist biker gang
from Russia, including their areas of reach and ideologies.

Additionally, through its long-standing partnership with the non-partisan
think tank GLOBSEC, CEP mapped out right-wing extremist networks in Central and
Eastern Europe and hosted multiple webinars this year centered around
right-wing extremist groups and networks in that region that reject
globalization and “western” values.
