Friends and Supporters,
We’re just days away from 2024, a year of enormous consequence for America.
Whether No Labels will offer our ballot line to a ticket or not is still an open question, but there are some things we can say with increasing certainty.
First, it is unlikely that either party will listen to the majority of Americans by nominating a commonsense candidate. In their respective primary races, Trump is ahead by 48 points and Biden by 60 points.
Second, a record number of Americans want a third choice in 2024—at least 63 percent. That makes the 2024 race categorically different than any other in recent history, with a clear path to victory for a third-party candidate.
Third, the insistence of some Democrats that Biden is a lock to defeat Trump and that No Labels will spoil his chances is looking increasingly ridiculous. Not only is Trump leading Biden, but he is leading by the highest margin of his political career.
Fourth, 2024 will be a defining moment for America. Trust in the two parties is at historic lows, Americas are losing faith in our political system, and 1 in 4 believe violence might be necessary to save the country.
This is a turning point, but the question is which way we will turn.
People on the left think a turn toward Trump will spell disaster. People on the right think the same about Biden.
A turn toward either extreme will provoke the other extreme, and the downward spiral will continue.
We must reset the political incentives that led to this extremism in the first place. This can only be done by putting commonsense voices on both sides at the same table.
Those who say it’s impossible — that a third party can never win, or that unity can never work — sound a lot like the naysayers of eras past.
Like those who said it would be impossible to reconstruct America after the Civil War or rebuild our economy after the Great Depression. Or those who said flying was impossible, or splitting the atom was impossible, or going to the moon was impossible.
America is a land of firsts. Here, better always wins, even if it takes time.
Churchill is said to have quipped, “America will always do the right thing — after exhausting all the alternatives.”
America has tried the far left and the far right. We’ve tried Trump. We’ve tried Biden.
We’ve exhausted both alternatives — and it has been exhausting indeed.
Maybe this will be the year we try something new.
The American people are demanding it, but neither party is listening.
No Labels is listening, and we’re ready.
Onward to 2024,
Joe Lieberman
