Clarence Thomas is corrupt and cannot be trusted to recuse himself from cases where he has conflicts of interest. His refusal, in turn, corrupts the Supreme Court and the rulings they provide.

Thomas accepted many gifts and donations from wealthy donors unparalleled in the history of the Supreme Court. Those donors then had business before the court, which Thomas (biasedly) ruled on. The obvious and glaring lack of accountability puts so many things directly at stake for the American people: The Supreme Court rules on everything from abortion to climate mitigation to voting rights.

This must end now. It is time for Thomas to answer to his corruption. He does not deserve his seat on the Supreme Court.

Thanks in large part to ProPublica's impeccable journalism, 2023 has been a year of reckoning for Clarence Thomas. And with each revelation, Thomas' contempt for ethics, the rule of law, and the American public is made plain.

He repeatedly exploited his power, secretly accepting private flights, yacht trips, and lush vacations from super-wealthy conservative donors over three decades in violation of legal and ethical standards. He has also refused to recuse himself from cases when he faced clear conflicts of interest, often when it benefitted his wealthy buddies or served the political goals of his ultraconservative wife, Ginni.

We cannot allow Thomas' extraordinary display of corruption and lawbreaking to go unanswered. Congress must remove him from the bench before he does any more damage.
