Just How Much Does an Ox and Plough Cost?
When we asked farmers in Gouin, a rural community in southwestern Haiti where food insecurity is rampant, what they needed most to support themselves and their families over a long term, they didn't hesitate: "quality seeds, two oxen, and a plough." Add in technical training and access to water, and these rural families can expand their production and make a decent living off of their land.
Gouin farmers have been eking out a living from their drought-stricken land since the country's formation. They know what it takes to raise enough food for themselves and to sell at the local market to earn a small income. Skilled with livestock, they know that a shared team of oxen and a plough will go a long way toward easing their current food crises.
So, how much does an ox and a plough cost? $3,000
One-hundred-pound bags of pea seeds? $378
One thousand cassava cuttings? $45
Your donation today can provide these supplies for the farmers in Gouin.
