For so many of us, the fight to end the drug war is personal. We support a public health approach because we know it works. DPA’s promotes evidence-based solutions that keep people safe and healthy.
That’s true for the staff at DPA as well as many of our supporters — including Eric C., an internal medicine doctor and longtime DPA member.
“In my work as a physician, I know that addiction is a medical problem that needs public health and not criminal justice solutions,” he says. “DPA has been and continues to be engaged in effective advocacy with policymakers who can make these changes.”
Like so many doctors, Eric has seen firsthand that arrests and punishments don’t work. And yet with the rise of fentanyl and the continuing overdose crisis, we are having to push back against the same bad policies that have done so much harm over the past 50 years.
