Non-profit advocacy organizations like ours rely on a surge of end-of-year giving to help sustain our work. Taking on Big Tech is made possible with donations from individual supporters like you. So, during this crucial time, I’m asking for your help.

Let me highlight four reasons why the work we’re doing at Accountable Tech is so important right now:

After a year of calling out Google on their failed promise to delete sensitive location data to protect people seeking abortion care, the company just announced a new policy to better secure Location History data. This means that Google will soon save Location History data (that could be used by right-wing states to prosecute abortion-seekers) on individual devices – or encrypt it if users choose to back-up their phone’s data to the cloud.
We worked with leading artificial intelligence and privacy experts to publish a Zero Trust AI Governance framework, setting the baseline for regulatory oversight and intervention of this quickly emerging and rapidly-expanding new technology.
With major elections in more than 50 countries in 2024, Big Tech must be taking steps to protect election integrity now. This year, we released a framework endorsed by major democracy and tech accountability groups – and together with our coalition partners, we’ll be pushing for social media companies to adopt the Democracy by Design recommendations to counter election manipulation and enhance systemic resilience against threats to our election systems.
We hosted our inaugural Accountable Tech Summit, bringing together policymakers, experts, and activists for an afternoon in D.C. to build cross-cutting strategies to rein in Big Tech’s threats to democracy, protect kids online, and ensure AI works for the public good. We are headed into 2024 full steam ahead on these important advocacy efforts to hold Big Tech companies accountable for fueling the spread of hate and extremism and undermining our democracy.
