In the last newsletter for 2023, we highlight the 9th annual OutSummit, which brought together activists and advocates from around the world to discuss the challenges faced by the global LGBTIQ movement. The panelists and keynote speakers emphasized the urgent need to create capacity for better LGBTIQ lives everywhere. Additionally, the newsletter mentions a collection of stories by older LGBT persons in the Philippines and Nepal, which explores various societal aspects and challenges this community faces. We reflect on the movement's triumphs, challenges, and hopes in 2023 and encourage your support for Outright International's work in defending fundamental rights and freedoms. Happy reading, and we will be back with more news and updates in the coming year.

On December 4, we brought activists and allies from across civil society, government, philanthropy, and business from over 95 countries at the 9th annual OutSummit. With 40% of the world’s population able to vote in 2024, it is no surprise that democracy was high on the agenda, especially as reports describe democracy as being in trouble, stagnant at best, and declining in many places. The panelists and keynote speakers shared their powerful insights, highlighting the challenges faced by the global LGBTIQ movement. Each speaker's words resonated with a common theme: the urgent need to create capacity for better LGBTIQ lives everywhere. Read the recap article on the event, and check out the photos and recordings from the summit. Thanks to all OutSummit's 2023 Presenting Sponsor, JPMorgan Chase & Co., and all event supporters.
