Dear John,

We take the safety and health of our fellow human rights advocates and our communities as a serious responsibility at WOLA.

To that end, out of an abundance of caution and in response to the best available public health recommendations relating to COVID-19 (Coronavirus), WOLA has decided to postpone our 2020 WOLA Human Rights Awards Ceremony and Benefit Gala. The Gala will now be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2020. It will still be held at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C. I’m delighted that our honorees, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar and Fray Matías de Córdova Human Rights Center, will be able to attend in person on the new date.

I’m sending along an updated Save the Date with all the relevant information.

To those of you who have already purchased tickets or sponsorships, we will honor those purchases for the new date. We will also offer refunds upon request. We are in communication with our partners and our award recipients about the change in plans, and will make sure to keep all of you updated with additional information as we have it.

As always, we are happy to answer any questions or concerns you have about the Gala. In the meantime, we hope you join us in doing what we can to protect and maintain the health of our communities. Follow the U.S. Center for Disease Control (CDC) ([link removed]) and your local public health entities for updates and best practices on COVID-19 prevention and mitigation.
