Dear Friend,
Eviction and homelessness rates are higher than they have been in years. Millions of people working full time cannot find affordable housing. America is too expensive for far too many Americans.
Yet this is the thing: Our housing crisis is no exception to the rule, but rather reflects an economic uncertainty now inherent in America’s make-up. We are governed by a system that is predicated on a permanent underclass, our routine economic policies dedicated so solely to short term stockholder value that an entire swath of Americans – make that a majority of Americans – see little hope of anything ever approaching home ownership, or retirement savings, or even in the case of millions of Americans, getting out of debt before they die.
Ours is the only campaign with a plan to fundamentally alter this. An Economic Bill of Rights providing universal health care, tuition free college and tech school, subsidized child care, paid family leave, guaranteed affordable housing, guaranteed sick pay and a guaranteed living wage create an economic u-turn for a country now headed towards an economic iceberg. We have got to turn around.

While it’s true enough that our freedom is at risk these days, I agree with FDR when he said “a necessitous man is not a free man.” A person with little or no economic hope is not truly free.
And that is why this campaign exists. We are not just offering crumbs to the American people; we are offering fundamental change. We are offering a A Better Deal. We are offering economic hope to millions of Americans who at this point have none.
Make no mistake about it: all that economic hopelessness is itself a danger to our country. It is a toxic brew out of which all manner of both personal and societal dysfunction almost inevitably arise. We have already experienced so much in the last few years. It's time for a season of repair.
Please give generously so we can get this message out to the American people. It’s not just urgent for our campaign; it’s urgent for our country. |
