Last week, our team was headed into Chicago Animal Care and Control, the city pound, when they saw Nova sitting outside, covered by a tarp. A Good Samaritan had found him in a dumpster earlier and dropped him off there for help, according to a bystander.

Under the tarp was a horribly infected wound that left his leg swollen twice its size and without treatment, caused his leg tissue to turn necrotic. He would need surgery before his body went into septic shock, so he came straight to PAWS for help.

Nova had to be in excruciating pain, but his tail wagged the whole ride back to our Medical Center.

His first day post-op, Nova was already hamming it up. This little trooper was launching himself into laps, jumping up for pets, throwing his toys around, and scarfing down food.

Judging by all the scars and cuts he’s covered in, life has been hard on Nova. Not anymore. He’s healing so well, and we think Nova will clear for adoption soon! He’s spending the next week in foster care, probably curled up in their bed as you read this 💕.
