Hi John, I’m Robert, CREW’s Research Director. I wanted to reach out today with a simple message:

I’ve worked with CREW for more than five years and it’s been incredible to see what CREW has been able to accomplish over the last few years.

The peaceful transfer of power after a free and fair election is what this country is all about.

That’s why the insurrection on January 6th at the Capitol was so damaging to our democracy — for the first time, a candidate lied about the results of the election and tried to impede the transfer of power, while elected Republicans stood by and either encouraged his election lies, or said nothing.

And we’re seeing Trump call to terminate the Constitution over those same election lies — while many elected Republicans have remained silent.

Now more than ever, we need people who are willing to stand up and defend our democracy and we need groups like CREW who can take that effort to court.

CREW sued in Colorado and won, securing a historic decision that Donald Trump is ineligible for the ballot because of his role in inciting the January 6th insurrection.

That win last week built on a win from last year, when we removed an insurrectionist named Couy Griffin from office in New Mexico—the first time in more than 150 years the 14th Amendment’s Disqualification Clause was enforced in court.

There’s simply no other group that sets that kind of precedent and uses it to defend our democracy like we do.

Of course, we’re working day in and day out to not only hold insurrectionists accountable, but to fight for a better government and stronger democracy across the board. That means advancing judicial ethics reform, exposing dark money, holding corporations accountable for funding the Sedition Caucus, keeping the pressure on to ban congressional stock trading and so much more. (As you can tell, we’ve been busy).

We all benefit from CREW’s work holding our government accountable, and we all can play a part in keeping the work going.
