Thanks to Speaker McClinton’s leadership: - Our pro-environment majority was defended: with decisive victories in special elections, we re-secured a pro-environment majority in the State House;
- The Matzie-Marshall Rail Safety Bill was passed: we hailed the Matzie-Marshall Rail Safety Bill, designed to better protect Pennsylvanians from railway disasters like the East Palestine, Ohio derailment;
- Solar for Schools Legislation advanced: thanks to Speaker McClinton's leadership, the House passed the Solar for Schools legislation, which will contribute to the advancement of clean energy in our state!
We’re incredibly hopeful that next year we will see even more accomplished to safeguard our state’s natural resources. To help make that happen, we all need to raise our voices and express our appreciation to Speaker Joanna McClinton for her work to advance environmental policies – please send a message now. The more people who encourage the Speaker to take her support for the environment to the next level in 2024, the greater an impact we will have.
Not a lot of people know, but the House Speaker has a big say in deciding what bills get voted on and what bills get tabled. There’s no doubt that Speaker McClinton supports the environment – she has a lifetime environmental score of 96%! But there are dozens of other priorities she’s balancing, and it would be easy for her to put action on water, air, and climate change on the backburner.
But in 2023, not only did she help to broker negotiations to pass pro-environmental legislation to bring clean, solar energy to schools, but she also rejected attacks, including bills that would have weakened the Clean Streams Law, undermined the state’s ability to protect the environment and public health, and created loopholes in permitting requirements that would lead to more pollution in our waterways.
House Speakers get a lot of heat and hear a lot of demands all year long. Let’s take a moment to send a message to Speaker McClinton thanking her for all that the House accomplished in 2023 under her leadership.
Your voice makes a difference, and together, we can continue to promote a sustainable and eco-friendly Pennsylvania.
Gratefully yours,
