Hi John,
For the third year in a row we’ve had a huge win against Amazon.
In 2021, we led a successful campaign that got Amazon to indefinitely suspend sales of facial recognition tech to police departments and prevented police departments from accessing footage directly from Ring users.1,2
In 2022, we got the FTC to investigate Amazon’s acquisition of i-Robot which would’ve further entrenched Amazon’s monopoly in the smart home surveillance device market and given the corporation even more access to intimate data about peoples’ homes and lives.3
And this year, our work urging the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to address the privacy and security threats that Amazon Ring devices posed to consumers finally came to fruition.4 The FTC sued Amazon Ring for violating individual consumers' privacy and failing to put in place meaningful protections to prevent employees and third parties from accessing users’ video.5
The good news doesn’t stop there. Amazon didn’t fight the claims. In fact, the tech giant settled with the FTC, agreeing to pay $5.8 million.6
Now, we’ve got Amazon on the ropes. But we need your help to double our efforts to stop Amazon’s surveillance and data abuse. Will you chip in so we can continue our fight to protect against this intrusive big-brother-like surveillance network? Donate today and you 2X your impact thanks to a generous match.
Donate to Stop Amazon Surveillance
Our tactics and strategies to fight Amazon surveillance are working. Through thousands of petition signatures, email, and calls we’ve been able to mobilize against Amazon and its army of lobbyists.
And we’re just getting started. Now that we’ve demonstrated it's possible to have sustained wins against the largest tech corporation in the world, we need to do more. But we’re facing a significant year-end fundraising shortfall. If we don’t meet our goal, we’ll have to scale back our plans to hit the ground running in the new year, and we may not be able to build the support needed to mount a successful campaign.
We know not everyone can donate. But if you can afford to chip in, even $5 or $10, it makes a huge difference for a small nonprofit like us. Please donate today if you can.
We appreciate all of your support in fighting for a surveillance-free world. Your help has made it possible for our campaigns to be as successful as they’ve been—and your support will help Fight win against Amazon for a fourth year. Thank you!
In solidarity,
