Friend,
Just days ago, we received a very sad email from Global Zero, the international movement for the elimination of nuclear weapons.
“Dear friends,” it started. “We are writing to share that after a challenging year of financial stress and uncertainty, Global Zero has been forced to suspend its operations indefinitely.”
The one reason they’re shutting down? A lack of funding. In its email, the group said it reached all of its strategic goals save one: raising enough money to support work that is “difficult to put a price tag on.”
We still believe a better world is possible – and we know the individuals who were part of Global Zero will find other ways to continue their work.
But this news is another blow to the global movement for peace — so let this be a warning.
As this major global voice for peace is silenced, it’s ever more critical that Common Dreams continue lifting up the work of all those remaining organizations and individuals worldwide working for peace and a better future. But even our work is dependent on the generosity of readers.
Please make a donation to help meet our End-of-Year Campaign goal, and help support journalism that unapologetically bolsters the progressive values of social justice, human rights, equality, and peace.
