*City of Ann Arbor Update: Sanitary Sewer Overflow Notification* "03/16/2020"

At approximately 3:26 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2020, the City of Ann Arbor was notified of a manhole in the University of Michigan Arboretum with water leaking from it. Upon further investigation, city public works crews identified this as a sanitary sewer overflow [ [link removed] ]. City public works crews immediately mobilized to unblock the sewer and clear debris from the sanitary sewer pipe. The blockage was due to a large piece of concrete brick.

An estimated 450 gallons of sewage discharged onto a gravel pathway area in the arboretum. No sewage reached any waters of the State or stormwater connection. The affected pathway area (near the entrance to the arboretum off of Washington Heights) has been cordoned off, with signs posted. In addition, lime has been applied to the affected area to neutralize any bacteria.

In accordance with regulatory protocols, City of Ann Arbor staff has notified the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy.

*City of Ann Arbor Update: City of Ann Arbor Non-essential Operations to Close Through April 5* "03/16/2020"

In our continuing efforts to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus in our community and align with state executive orders, the City of Ann Arbor will close all non-essential operations [ [link removed] ] through Sunday, April 5. These measures will not impact critical services such as drinking water, waste water, police, fire, emergency operations and waste and recycling pickup.

City Services:


* City staff deemed essential will be working remotely when possible and those serving the community will continue to provide mandated and safety services.
* The public is encouraged to access city services via phone, email or online:
* To pay parking tickets, water bills, property taxes, apply for permits as well as other customer service options, residents and visitors are encouraged to take advantage of online services by visiting www.a2gov.org/services.
* Customer Service Center staff will be available to the public by calling and leaving a message at 734.794.6320 Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
* Customer service questions and inquires can be emailed to the Customer Service Center at [email protected].
* Issues reported via the report a problem website or the A2 Fix It app will continue to be addressed.

* At this time, city building, trade and rental inspections are being scheduled, please call 734.794.6263 or email [email protected].
* The City Council meeting will take place today, March 16 at 7 p.m., however, the public is encouraged to watch the live streamed meetings ([link removed]) or utilize ecomment ([link removed]) (for agenda items of interest. There is a closed session of Council scheduled for 6 p.m. in City Council chambers. Larcom City Hall's public doors will open at 5 p.m. for the meeting and will close again when the Council meeting has concluded.
* The Board of Review meetings will continue at Larcom City Hall on March 16 and 17, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; March 18, 1-9 p.m.; and March 19, 9 a.m.-noon. Participants will need to use the phone in the lobby to be granted access to the building.

The city will continue to monitor this rapidly evolving situation and coordinate with local and state partners to determine if this closure date should be expanded.
