Hello Friend,
watch
here
Some things are sent to try us. COVID-19 is the latest.
The Coalition is determined to do all it can to protect the health
of New Zealanders and cushion the disruptive effects of coronavirus on
the domestic economy. The first responsibility of any government is to
keep its citizens safe and we will do whatever it takes to control the
spread of the virus.
COVID-19 is a global challenge and our aggressive local response is
designed to cushion the economic disruption the country is
experiencing. The government has gone hard with its health response
and now we’re matching that with our economic response.
New Zealand First is proud to support the economic package
announced today. Our concern for older New Zealanders, first and
foremost, and supporting business and workers, is reflected in today’s
initial response.
While 2020 is a different age, we can learn from how New Zealanders
have responded to other great global disruptions – Wars, Great
Depressions, share market crashes, and the recent SARS virus crisis –
in our national life. What got the country through those dark periods
was a shared sense of self-sacrifice, a belief in ourselves, and
community.
Now we draw upon those strengths again – care, cooperation and not
leaving it to someone else.
Over the coming months every New Zealander will need to look out
for the most vulnerable amongst us.
Stay in touch with your parents and grandparents. Help them.
Comfort them.
Take every precaution to keep your loved ones safe. Follow the
advice of our health professionals at every turn. They are highly
skilled and we acknowledge their courage for the tough work ahead of
them.
We are all human and of course there will be some mistakes in this
difficult journey but together we will emerge stronger from this
ordeal. The government, for its part, will leave no stone
unturned to support New Zealanders through these trying times.
We continue that work today.
