Dear Friend --
Starting Tuesday, March 17, 2020, the City of Long Beach will
temporarily suspend issuing street sweeping parking citations this
week through Friday, March 20, 2020. All other parking enforcement,
including enforcement for metered parking and red, white and blue
curbs, will continue as usual.
As we develop a comprehensive plan to address parking impacted
neighborhoods, we are suspending street sweeping tickets to give some
relief to residents who are struggling. Street sweeping is an
important public safety and health function so it’s important that we
continue cleaning streets in the weeks ahead.
During this time, street sweeping will continue standard operations
in areas where the street sweeper can effectively sweep the streets,
however no citations will be issued to violating vehicles. The City
encourages the community to move their vehicles, if possible, so that
street sweeping can operate effectively.
Street sweeping is a critical health service for the City, picking
up thousands of tons of debris and trash each year. As such, it is
essential long-term that streets continue to be swept on a regular
basis. City staff are actively working to develop plans for
alternative parking options. Information regarding these plans will be
provided in an issued statement later this week.
