For my family, the holidays are a time of reflection, friend. I know a lot of us with busy schedules don't have enough time for that these days, but I want to take 15 minutes today to reflect with you.

Right now, I'm reflecting on all the people whose love and support have gotten me this far in life – starting with my mom, who raised me on her own in Dallas, taught in public schools, and took on extra work to make ends meet.

My aunt and uncle and my grandparents helped out, too, and so did so many folks in our community: teachers, coaches, and the staff at our local YMCA. Thanks to all of them, I earned a full football scholarship to Baylor, went on to play in the NFL, became a civil rights lawyer, and made it all the way to the halls of Congress.

Growing up with such a strong support system is what inspired me to run for Congress to represent the community that raised me. I don't want my story to be the exception; I want every kid and every family to have everything they need to live their version of the American dream. I'm proud of the progress we've made over the last five years, from creating jobs and investing in our state's economy to improving our infrastructure and protecting access to affordable health care. But there's still much to be done, and that's why I decided to run against Ted Cruz.

A lot of people told me not to run. They said that I'd be crazy to give up my "safe" seat in the House to challenge Ted Cruz. But I know Texans deserve better than Cruz's divisive extremism, and I know how close we came to beating him in 2018 (he won by just 2.6%). This race will be tough, and we're starting off as the underdog, but we have to try. And I'm going to throw everything I have into this race because I truly believe we can win.

One of the major reasons I know we can win (and why a lot of national experts are saying it too) is this grassroots team – including you, friend. When we launched this campaign, folks like you helped me raise over $2 million dollars in our first 36 hours, and you've been with me every day since, helping me travel all around Texas to connect with voters. I can't tell you how grateful I am – but as we look toward the election year, I need your help to keep it up.

Ted Cruz and his mega-rich extremist allies are scared, and they're going to throw every trick in the book at us. I simply won't be able to fight back and win without your continued support. So I'm humbly asking: If you believe in this campaign, if you're as fired up as I am to beat Ted Cruz, will you chip in $5 or more today to keep up our momentum all the way through Election Day?

Together, we can make Texas, and our country, the best they can be. Thank you so much.
