The tragic death of Eugene Gates, a United States Postal Service (USPS) carrier who collapsed from a heat stroke in Dallas, has brought to light a disturbing trend under the leadership of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy.
Despite the USPS having a national Heat Illness Prevention Program (HIPP) designed to protect workers from heat-related illnesses, there are alarming reports of the USPS's failure to properly implement these safety measures.
This negligence is not an isolated incident. Allegations have emerged from at least ten states, including Texas, New Jersey, Utah, and Illinois, where postal managers falsified records of heat training for over 2,000 couriers.
This widespread disregard for employee safety by Louis DeJoy is unacceptable and demands immediate Congressional scrutiny.
