PLEASE VOTE

The ACLU's take on Marsy's Law.

With efforts to combat the coronavirus causing widespread disruptions to daily life, we at the ACLU of Wisconsin are committed to continuing to defend your civil liberties and civil rights – and above all, protecting your right to vote.

The April 7th election is right around the corner and it's critical for Wisconsinites to make their voices heard.

In addition to the presidential primary, voters will also decide who will serve on the state's highest court and whether to enact a harmful ballot initiative called Marsy's Law that would undermine protections for the accused.

Our rights are on the ballot – and if you're trying to avoid public spaces, voting by mail has never been easier.

Any Wisconsin voter can vote by mail by requesting an absentee ballot. Just remember to include a copy of your ID with your application.

Voters have until Wednesday, March 18 to register online with a Wisconsin driver's license or ID card, or by mail with proof of residence. After that you can register in person at an early voting site or on Election Day.

While voters have until 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 2 to request an absentee ballot once they've registered, don't delay! Request your absentee ballot early to make sure your voice is heard.

Don't forget that the clerk must receive your ballot no later than 8 p.m. on Election Day; just postmarking it that day isn't enough. So mail it in plenty of time to get to the clerk – or drop it off in person.

Learn more about voting absentee in Wisconsin and make sure your voice is heard on April 7.

Stand for a Livable Climate
Friday March 20, 2020
12:00 - 1:00 pm

We are reviewing this Friday's action

Chase & Wells Fargo
Wisconsin Ave. at Water St.

We believe there can be a future for the next generations!

Chase & Wells Fargo banks are the 1st & 2nd LARGEST funders of fossil fuel (coal-mining operations (like the mountain top removal project above), oil and gas companies, fracking firms, pipelines, and arctic exploration) companies in the WORLD!

In 2020 climate activists around the world are focusing their efforts on big banks to slow the money pipeline that flows to fossil fuel companies.  Will you help do something for the future?

You can't join us on Fridays, but you do want to do something? Read Bill McKibben's article linked below, then, if you bank with Chase, Wells Fargo, BMO, BofA, Capital One, etc., make a plan to move your accounts to institutions that don't fund fossil fuels.  Yeah, it's a headache, I know from experience...

Want to Do Something About Climate Change? Follow the Money - Bill McKibben, New Yorker

For tips on moving your bank, scroll down to the Moving Your Money section at 350MKE.

Please join us - rain, snow or shine. (Unless it's a serious blizzard or seriously cold!)  Dress in layers for the weather.  There are many pedestrians over the noon hour and we talk to lots of folks.  There's a lot of positive feedback - 10x more than negative.

We have signs and banners, but feel free to bring your own

Can you chip in a few dollars at the Action Network to help defray the personal cost to the eleven people arrested?

Next Court Date???
Monday, April 20, 2020
8:30am
Milwaukee City Municipal Court
951 N James Lovell St

The date is two days before
Earth Day

On Dec. 6, 2019, The People's Climate Coalition held a rally and demonstration in downtown Milwaukee in accordance with the International Youth Climate Strikes and the Sunrise Movement National Climate Strikes.  On that day eleven individuals were arrested during a peaceful sit-in protesting fossil fuel financing by Wells Fargo Bank.

The eleven people arrested are members of the People's Climate Coalition @PCC.MKE (in addition to other Milwaukee climate groups).  These eleven people (many of whom are students) will have total fines between about $1300 and $1700 depending on the eventual fines for the men.

You weren't arrested, but you can contribute by donating to help with their fines at PCC.MKE at the Action Network

Please donate $5, $10, or more.  Your help will go towards the fines of these eleven people.

Thank you,
350 Milwaukee
