Dear Friends,

Do you remember the reappearance of the Russian journalist, Marina Ovsyannikova, at the beginning of 2023? RSF coordinated her exfiltration from Moscow. A few weeks later, after two years of mobilisation, we celebrated the return to France of journalist Olivier Dubois, held hostage in Mali.

In October, French-Afghan journalist Mortaza Behboudi was released after 284 days in detention in Afghanistan. There wasn't a week during his detention when we didn't intercede directly with the Taliban in Kabul. In France, we coordinated the mobilisation.

At this very moment, we are working on a daily basis alongside the son of Jose Rubén Zamora, a leading figure in independent journalism in Guatemala, to obtain his release, and Juan Pablo Barrientos, in Colombia, who has been persecuted for seven years because of his investigations.

All five wanted to thank you directly in this video (click here). They wanted to express their gratitude for your invaluable support, which every day enables our team to campaign, plead, provide assistance and protect journalists.

I would like to join them in thanking you most sincerely for all that your generosity has enabled us to achieve in 2023. Every year, your donations strengthen our capacity to act in favour of free, independent and pluralist information. Thank you so much for your support !
