Survival Sunday: December 24, 2023

Happy weekend, friends!

Survival Sunday is a personal note and a round-up of the week's news
and resources for folks who are interested in being prepared. This
curated collection of information is only available to email and Patreon

A PERSONAL NOTE

 

Every year, I wonder...is this it? Is this our last modern-world holiday
season? The last one with the internet? The last one where we have
freedom? The last one in which we can afford to buy gifts? The last one
where we can turn on our heat at the turn of a dial or the tap of a
digital keyboard?

It's an important exercise, by my way of thinking. Not because I'm
doomy, but because it helps me to remember that no matter what we've
lost, we still have much for which to be thankful.

We have some new post-apocalyptic fiction this year - a short story by
1stMarineJarHead. He did a really awesome job, and you can read it here
. Tomorrow, I'll continue
the tradition of posting the Christmas story I wrote years ago.

It's funny how traditions start, isn't it? The movie you always watch.
The meal you always prepare. The stories you always read. Sometimes,
they get passed down from our parents, and sometimes, we start our own
to meet the needs and desires of our loved ones. But traditions are
important, whatever they may be. They connect us with our past and
comfort us. They make our children feel safe and loved. And they help
the grown-ups feel secure, too.

This year, no matter how your situation may have changed due to events
in the world, I hope that your traditions bring you joy, peace, and
comfort.

How to Feed Your Family No Matter What

Having something to eat isn't guaranteed.

We're facing threats to our food supply from many different angles:
supply chain breakdowns, drought, food facilities being ravaged by
fires, skyrocketing inflation, and outright shortages. No longer can we
live in the comfort of unthreatened abundance. We're learning exactly
