Dear Friend,
As the year comes to a close, there's no better time to reflect on the progress that we've made in the fight against Alzheimer's disease in 2023.
I'm so thankful for the strength of our Alzheimer's Association community. The kindness and compassion that we saw this year are inspiring — and powerful. On behalf of myself, the entire Alzheimer's Association community and the more than 6 million Americans living with Alzheimer's disease, I hope we can count you among our committed supporters in the year to come.
We're committed to advancing our mission to lead the way to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia — by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support. But we can't do it alone.
Your generosity can help us continue to make progress possible in the fight against this disease. As Alzheimer's remains an escalating global public health crisis, there's no time to spare — and it's up to all of us to help, in whatever way we can.
I'm pleased to share with you our 2023 Annual Report, where you will see how much our community has accomplished, together. You can help when you join us in supporting resources, advocacy initiatives and advancing research aimed at building a healthier future.
With your help, we:
- Provided care and support more than 6.5 million times through channels including alz.org, care consultations, support groups and education programs.
- Received over 200,000 calls and online chats through our 24/7 Helpline (800.272.3900), offering free confidential support and information to people facing Alzheimer's and all other dementia.
- Advocated for an increase of $226 million in Alzheimer's and dementia research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), bringing federal funding to more than $3.7 billion annually.
- Advocated in all 50 states to secure access to FDA-approved Alzheimer's treatments for those who would benefit.
- Invested in over 1,000 active research projects in 53 countries across six continents.
- And achieved many more accomplishments that you can read about in our 2023 Annual Report.
In addition to these tremendous steps, we achieved a monumental milestone in 2023: an astounding $100 million investment in research initiatives, the largest single-year investment in our history. This unparalleled commitment shows the momentum we're building today in our search for breakthroughs tomorrow.
We have a lot to be proud of — and many reasons to be hopeful.
At the same time, this time of year can be challenging for families facing Alzheimer's. When changes in a loved one's health make it impossible to celebrate the way you used to, the pain can be hard to bear. Caregivers, especially, can become overwhelmed and isolated as they try to create a celebratory yet safe atmosphere.
If this is true for you and your family, I offer you my compassion and encouragement. Please know that you are not alone and that we're always here to help.
Our free 24/7 Helpline (800.272.3900) is available every single day — holidays, weekends, no exceptions. Our website, alz.org, is always available with helpful resources, as is our Community Resource Finder, an online tool that can help you find programs, support services and housing options in your local community. The more we support each other, the stronger we all are.
In the fight against Alzheimer's, we're committed to ensuring that no one is left behind. We're so thankful for your friendship this year.
Warmest holiday wishes,
Michael Reich
Chief Marketing Officer
P.S. Because the holidays can be an especially difficult time for families facing Alzheimer's, I hope you'll send a gift of solidarity and support. In honor of loved ones they've lost to Alzheimer's, trustees of the JTMF Foundation have generously pledged to triple match every gift we receive, up to a total of $250,000, to support local care and support programs and to expand our reach to families in rural communities — but only until December 26. Your year-end gift today can make 3X the impact in the fight against Alzheimer's. Warm wishes for a happy new year to you and your loved ones.
