“I am proud of myself and am now on the high school A-B Honor Roll, when less than two years ago I could not speak a word of English,” says Khurshid. “When I look back over two years, I feel I am much stronger and more confident of myself now than I was when I was in Afghanistan.”

After overcoming so much during her journey, Khurshid is now applying to community colleges to study accounting. “I am so excited for my future and feel empowered by my past,” she says.
