Biden issues pardons for certain marijuana offenses
President Biden built on the action he took last year to pardon thousands of nonviolent drug offenders, expanding the pardons to those convicted for "use and possession on certain federal lands." Biden also commuted the prison sentences of 11 people convicted of nonviolent drug offenses, including some who have received mandatory life sentences. This is a wonderful start — now it's time to legalize marijuana at the national level and put this absurd, arbitrary prohibition to rest.

Wisconsin Supreme Court orders new state legislative maps
The state Supreme Court, newly empowered with a liberal majority thanks to the election of new Judge Janet Protasiewicz, has ordered the state to throw out the Wisconsin GOP's outrageous gerrymanders that are so extreme that Democrats literally couldn't win control of the House even though they won more votes. “For too long, rightwing interests have rigged the rules without any consequences. Gerrymandered maps have distorted the political landscape, stifling the voice of the voters. It challenges the very essence of fair representation and erodes confidence in our political system," wrote attorney Dan Lenz for Law Forward, the group which brought the lawsuit that prompted the decision. It cannot be understated how HUGE this is for dismantling the one-party rule that the GOP tried to install in the key battleground state.
