John, the photo of that little baby is me with my mom. The story of why I’m running starts with her. (If you’re ready to flip NY-17 and retake our majority, you can contribute before my campaign’s first end-of-year fundraising deadline here.) Growing up in the Village of Spring Valley, my mother told me that I could be anything I wanted. It was a radical idea. My mom, who struggled with mental illness, had dropped out of college and was working multiple jobs just to make ends meet—even as we relied on Section 8 housing and food stamps. Despite our financial insecurities, my mother’s radical idea that I could be anything I wanted helped me dream big—big enough to be elected to Congress and fight for working families like my own. Everyday people deserve members of Congress in their corner who will fight for them, their families, and their futures. Every child deserves the opportunity and encouragement to dream, just like my mom taught me. That’s exactly why I’m running. Our campaign is facing our first end-of-year fundraising deadline this Sunday and I need to raise $50,000 to start the election year strong. Will you chip in any amount to help flip NY-17 and retake our majority so I can get to work and fight for everyone? If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: The truth is, my story should not be the exception, but thanks to Republicans in Congress and a broken political system rigged to benefit those on top, it is. Corporate lobbyists from Big Oil to Big Pharma spend billions trying to influence elected officials like Republican Mike Lawler—himself a former oil and gas lobbyist. They want to maintain the status quo and keep our government working solely for the wealthy and well-connected. It’s created a system that’s worked handily for corporations, banks, and billionaires, but it’s forced everyday people to remain locked in a struggle just to make ends meet. With the rising costs of health care, housing, child care, education, and so much more, the situation is only getting worse. We can create a government responsive to working people, expand access to health care, lower prescription drug costs, and ensure wages are high enough to meet the costs of living and so much more. But we need more leaders from backgrounds like my own. We need to fight for and elect more leaders for whom policy is personal. Legislation that helps working people isn’t a pipe dream. With your support, we will flip NY-17, retake our House majority, and create a government that works for everyday people. Chip in $5 ahead of our campaign's first end-of-year deadline on Sunday to send me back to Congress. Let’s make our dream a reality. Sincerely, Mondaire
