Dear Friend,
I know it’s been a tough year for many of us. Israel’s war with Hamas, Russia’s continued invasion of Ukraine, and many other conflicts around the world have affected so many of us deeply. And the hyper-partisanship and dysfunction in Washington hasn’t made things any easier. Through all of these challenges, I’m continuing to lead with San Diego’s values first and trying to find bipartisan areas to do real good in people’s lives while also pushing back on Republicans’ extreme policies whenever possible.
I’m so proud that I’ve advanced many of my bipartisan bills – to prevent drug shortages, ensure safe and high-quality privatized military housing, protect Americans’ privacy, improve food security for our service members and military families, and much more. I’ve also pushed back on Republicans’ extreme policies that would cut much-needed government services, target the LGBTQ+ community, restrict abortion access, and more.
Delivering for San Diego is at the heart of everything my office does. I’m so grateful to represent our amazing community in Congress. We’ve directly assisted 2,691 constituents, returned $19 million to constituents through federal casework, and secured more than 270 federal grants for California’s 51st District this year.
We also secured $70 million in federal funding for San Diego’s nonprofits to care for migrants and asylum seekers at the U.S.-Mexico border, and we pushed President Biden to include $310 million in his supplemental funding request to address the cross-border pollution in the Tijuana River Valley. We also secured big wins for San Diego’s military community – improving access to quality housing, helping them put food on the table, and lowering the costs of child care. Earlier this week, President Biden signed my bipartisan Military Housing Readiness Council Act into law to help guarantee safe, high-quality privatized military housing, and my provision to expand housing access for junior enlisted service members. He also signed into law my bipartisan Military Food Security Act, which would help service members and their families put food on the table.
