Rep. Troy E. Nehls Sends Letter to Secretary Mayorkas, Criticizing Him for the Rail Closures in Eagle Pass and El Paso, Texas
This week, I sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, criticizing his and Joe Biden's dereliction of duty and failure to secure our homeland. The border crisis and its expanding economic impacts fall squarely on the Biden Administration and Senate Democrats. Unfortunately, the consequences for the American people only grow worse each day.

As you may know, Union Pacific and BNSF were mandated to halt their operations in Eagle Pass, Texas, and El Paso, Texas, due to mass illegal immigration surges. This is the second time in four months that the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has suspended rail operations at critical U.S.-Mexico international railway crossings, which prevents legitimate and lawful trade, will supercharge inflation, cripple our nation's agricultural producers, and send a ripple effect throughout our economy during the holiday season.

Thankfully, following my letter, CBP resumed operations at the rail crossings in Texas on Friday, December 22, 2023.

The Biden Administration's self-inflicted failures have created the most pressing national security crisis and humanitarian crisis. My Republican colleagues and I in Congress have offered numerous solutions, including the passage of H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023, through the House, which is the strongest border security package in our nation's history. However, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has yet to show interest in acting on this important piece of legislation and addressing the border crisis in any capacity.

You can read more about the letter HERE.

Attention Veterans: Do you need assistance with your VA claims?
If you can’t get an answer from the VA in a timely fashion, or if you feel you have been treated unfairly, my office may be able to help resolve a problem or get you the information you need. In addition, we can connect you with an accredited Veterans Service Officer (VSO). VSOs are trained and certified in the VA claims and appeals processes and work on behalf of Veterans and service members—as well as their dependents and survivors. Call my office at (346) 762-6597 or visit my website and let me know how I can be of assistance.
Information About the Ongoing Situation in Israel
The Department of State continues to closely monitor the security situation in Israel. The Department has a 24/7 coordinating group communicating with U.S. citizens and providing them assistance through phone calls and an online form. U.S. citizens seeking to be in touch with the U.S. Embassy in Israel can fill out the form (https://cacms.state.gov/s/crisis-intake) or call 1-833-890-9595 or 1-606-641-0131.

While commercial flights remain available and should be considered a first option, the State Department will soon offer departure assistance to American citizens through chartered transportation. American citizens who want to leave Israel on USG-chartered transportation must submit a Crisis Intake Form. After submitting a Crisis Intake Form, American citizens can expect an email from the State Department with additional guidance imminently. Please check your spam/junk mailboxes if you do not receive an email.

For more information, please visit my website, or call my district office at (346) 762-6600.
