Running for Congress is NOT easy under any circumstances, but especially not as a single dad, and especially not as an out and proud gay man in a red state.
Idaho is my home. Five generations of my family are here. I’m raising my sons here.
I want Idaho to be the very best we can possibly be – and I want to help us get there by serving our beautiful state in Congress.
When I ran for office last year, I thought I may have to downplay “the gay thing” a bit. But I was wrong. Our incredible community embraced my campaign everywhere I went. I got letters from people all across Idaho and the rest of the country, many from parents of LGBTQ+ youth, thanking me for showing that we belong in ALL the spaces where decisions about our lives are made.
I’m running for every kid in every small town who feels like they have to live in silence (the way I often felt growing up here) because they don’t see anyone who looks like them in positions of leadership or public service.
The radical right-wingers are losing, and they know it. That’s why they are so terrified of LGBTQIA+ people being seen and represented in every part of American life.
I’m running for Congress to fight for a future where my sons, and every kid in America, can grow up free to be their full, authentic selves – whatever and whomever that may be.
I’m running to show the nation and the world that even in so-called “red states,” LGBTQ+ people exist and we deserve a voice at the table.
