Local Colleges Receive Science of Reading Grants
|
Lilly Endowment Inc. is awarding more than $21.5 million in grants to 28 Indiana colleges to help train new
teachers in Science of Reading instruction methods.
The funding was approved through the endowment's Advancing the Science of Reading in Indiana initiative, which seeks to improve reading skills in Indiana K-12 students. The grants follow a new law
lawmakers passed during the 2023 legislative session that requires Indiana school districts to adopt curriculum and teacher preparation programs aligned with Science of Reading instruction.
The following colleges in Senate District 17 were awarded grants:
- Huntington University, $500,000;
- Manchester University, $500,000; and
- Taylor University, $749,261.
Congratulations to these colleges. I look forward to their continued success.
