Hi John,

I wanted to take a moment to share with you the story of the most defining work in my 25-year career in the U.S. Army.

During my first deployment to Iraq, I proudly led a combat-stress control team — or as our fellow soldiers called us “The Brain Rangers”.

It was our job to bring mental health care to soldiers by traveling into combat areas throughout Iraq. This was a revolutionary approach to treatment. Instead of having soldiers come to us, we brought care to them.

I could tell it meant a lot to the soldiers we spoke with that we risked traveling through dangerous combat zones to help them. So many of our soldiers needed to hear that they weren't going crazy, they were just having a normal reaction to an incredibly stressful and traumatic situation.

Our work not only helped thousands of soldiers cope with extreme stress, grief, or survivor’s guilt but also reduced their risk of PTSD when they returned home.

Despite the high risks I faced traveling to combat zones to meet with soldiers throughout Iraq, it was worth it to be able to aid and support my fellow soldiers in their time of need.

John, my time with the Brain Rangers instilled in me a deep sense of service and inspired my decision to run for Congress. I would greatly appreciate it if you could make a contribution of any amount to our support grassroots campaign so I can continue my mission to serve our soldiers and all Americans at an even higher level.
